wow, I used to live very close to this area, east 37th st. This brings back so many memories... I would look up at the Chrysler building all the time. Love this photo, thanks for bringing this lil bit of ny back to me.
Being in Witness Relocation in Canada really sucks, when you grew up in NYC and lived there for 35 years! Damn me for falling for a French girl!!! *sigh* love MY city to death... there's no place like home...
Witness Relocation is a city of 44,000 people time warped back to 1975. We have Walmart, McDonald's, Dairy Queen, Burger King, Pizza Hut, Blockbuster, KFC, Taco Bell, Wendy's, Little Caesar, Dominoes, and an A&W. We have Futureshop (Bestbuy of Canada, owned by Bestbuy), Sears and Boston Market... That is IT... as far as amenities go, oh wait there's a Days Inn here, and they're building a Holiday Inn, oh and of course we have 7-11.
Now, compare that, which sound like any 5-10 block radius in Queens, with ALL of NYC... I would kill someone for decent hotdog, pork lo mein or slice of pizza.
The really tall building is the Empire State Building, in midtown Manhattan (you should be facing Downtown.) About 8 blocks or so from Times Square. (Total aside: My wife is from Staten Island; I'd take a train from Connecticut into the city and take the X5 from the Public Library to Staten Island )
